Player New Team Former Team Action Notes
Rex Grossman Chicago Chicago Resigned Sexy Rexy is back baby.
Kyle Orton Chicago Chicago Resigned Why settle for one mediocre QB when you can have two?
Zach Thomas Dallas Miami Free Agent Signing/ 1 yr deal If LB Thomas can stay healthy, this is a pretty decent fit. Don't you hate it when a division rival does something that makes sense?
Troy Williamson Jacksonville Minnesota Trade for 6th round pick WR Williamson has been legendary for the Vikings...legendary for being a preseason fantasy player who is hyped and does nothing. He is young still and could turn it around. Maybe someone will teach him to catch.
Muhsin Muhammad Carolina Chicago Free Agent Signing WR Muhsin Muhammad (Moose!) is back in Carolina. He is 35 so there are questions about how much has has left to give. Considering the past chemistry between Delhomme, Smith and Muhammad, I wouldn't rule out a good year for him.
Justin Gage Tennessee Tennessee Resigned Fifth year WR Justin Gage set career highs in yardage (750) and receptions (55) for the Titans last year.
Dwight Smith Detroit Minnesota Free Agent Signing Starting quality safety and nickel back. Intercepted Eli Manning twice in the Minnesota/NYG matchup this year.
Andre Davis Houston Houston Resigning Former Hokie Andre Davis made some big splashes on special teams last year and is a solid #3 receiver. He had been in and out of the league before last year due to injuries. I for one am glad to see him make it in the league as he was a big time playmaker in college.
Tedy Bruschi New England New England Resigning 13 year vet LB Bruschi signs a multiyear deal with the Pats. This seems like a public relations move considering his long time affiliation with the team and his rapid recovery from a stroke. He is still a productive player (92 tackles in 07) but has obviously lost a few steps. I think they will pay him as long as he can play and I don't blame them.
Flozell Adams Dallas Dallas Resigning Dallas resigns their stud offensive lineman.
Jeff Faine Tampa Bay New Orleans Free Agent Signing Center Jeff Faine was a former first round pick by the Cleveland Browns. He ended up in New Orleans after a trade and is now a Buc. Three teams and he is only 26.
Tommy Kelly Oakland Oakland Resigning Kelly signs for 50.5 million, the largest contract ever for a defensive lineman. Kelly is set to make up production lost by the retiring Warren Sapp. Kelly made good for an undrafted free agent.
Corey Williams* Cleveland Green Bay Trade/ 2nd round pick* Green Bay had franchised DL star Williams.
Kris Jenkins* NY Jets Carolina Trade/ 3rd and 5th round picks* DL Jenkins, when healthy, is a monster who eats up space against even the best running games.
Johnathan Vilma* New Orleans NY Jets Trade/ conditional draft picks* The details are sketchy but it sounds like the Saints might have gotten a good deal on a solid LB.
Jerry Porter Jacksonville Oakland Free Agent Signing First the Jags get Williamson and now Oakland WR Jerry Porter The Jags seem to be specifically targeting their passing game for an upgrade. Also they have lost Ernest Wilford through Free Agency and he was arguably their best WR last year.
Deshaun Foster San Francisco Carolina Free agent Signing Shifty RB Foster is a good receiver and a good fit for the Martz offense that is now coming to SF. It also sounds like they got a good value for him (two-year, $1.8 million ).
Allen Rossum San Francisco Pittsburgh Free agent Signing Talented special teams returner. I remember him more for his electric kick returns for the Atlanta Falcons a few years ago.
Madieu Williams Minnesota Cincinatti Free agent Signing Williams agreed to a six-year, $33 million contract Friday morning.
Reggie Torbor Miami NY Giants Free agent Signing I have definitely seen improvement in Torbor's play over the last year. No one can deny he was part of the brilliant LB play that killed the Pats. I have a feeling Torbor might end up being one of several former Giants who were nursed through their growing pains with the Giants and leave just as they are getting good. See Cornelius Griffin, Joe Jurvicious for recent examples.
Ernest Wilford Miami Jacksonville Free agent Signing When I first saw Wilford play at VT, I knew he would be a NFL receiver. He is huge and knows how to use his size. He goes now to the Dolphins, who after a 1-15 season, are retooling everything. As a Jacksonville Jag, Wilford's signature move was getting open in the Red Zone.
Kawika Mitchell Buffalo NY Giants Free agent Signing LB Mitchell was inconsistant over his year long stint with the Giants but he always seemed good for 1-2 big tackles/sacks for a loss.
Gibril Wilson Oakland NY Giants Free agent Signing Safety Wilson is a hard hitter and decent in coverage. I question his judgement in leaving a relatively well managed team for a team in chaos like Oakland.
Asante Samuel Philadephia New England Free agent Signing Samuel is probably the best corner available on the free agent market this year. He is a legitimate shutdown corner and he plays bigger than his size. Despite the fact he will be best known for dropping an interception in the Super Bowl, he is known for he ability to feel out the ball and make interceptions.
Issac Bruce San Francisco St Louis Free agent Signing The good karma police have spoken. WR Issac Bruce is reunited with coordinator Mike Martz, who helped make him a superstar.
Josh Brown St Louis Seattle Free agent Signing Kicker Josh Brown exits the rain of Seattle for the safety of the St Louis dome.
Derek Anderson Cleveland Cleveland Resigned And the plot thickens. I suspect they structured QB Derek Anderson's contract in such a way that they can drop Anderson if Brady Quinn progresses or Anderson has problems. I feel the Browns need to win soon or the coaching staff is in trouble and I feel this move reflects that reality. There are already rumors abounding that Cleveland is looking to trade Anderson. I doubt that would happen this year but you never know.
Alan Fanaca NY Jets Pittsburgh Free agent Signing Fanaca's very vocal exit from Pittsburgh made for a lot of coverage of Fanaca's potential free agent moves. He was rumored to go to Arizona to reunite with former Steeler coaches Whisenhunt and Grimm. Alas, AZ did not put out the cash and NY did.
Cleo Lemon Jacksonville Miami Free agent Signing Lemon is well schooled in the beatings that the NFL has to offer. Despite being a sometimes starter on a team that went 1-15, he showed flashes of talent. He is mobile and has a decent arm. Lemon is certainly an upgrade for the Jags at backup QB behind David Garrard.
Justin Smith San Francisco Cincinatti Free agent Signing Justin Smith is a vet DE with good pass rush skills and a solid style of play. The Niners have been pretty active in the free agent market this year.
Dante Stallworth Cleveland Philadephia Free agent Signing The Browns signed Stallworth to a 7 yr deal. Pretty impressive deal for NE's #3 receiver.(Although he had moments with the Eagles where he looked like a good #1.)
Marcus Shroud Buffalo Jacksonville Trade/ Draft picks Shroud is an impressive big man who is active in the pass rush as well as run defense. Big loss for Jax, big gain for Buffalo in my opinion.
Alge Crumpler Tennessee Atlanta Free Agent Signing Crumpler is coming off something of a weak season but 1) Altanta's QB situation was teh suck, 2) Crumpler had some weird issues with a coach that quit midseason, and 3) Crumpler is a multi-time pro bowler. Lots of teams reportedly were after Crumpler and the Titans won.
Randy Moss New England New England Resigning There are some wild and goofy rumors about Moss like "Moss wants to reunite with Culpepper" and "Favre retired because the Pack didn't sign Moss". In the end Moss is an elite receiver who wants to stay with a team that went 16-0 in the 2007 regular season.
Sammy Knight NY Giants Jacksonville Free Agent Signing At this stage of his career, Sammy Knight may be a slight downgrade form departing S Gibril Wilson. One thing is for certain, Sammy will bring the smackdown.
Calvin Pace NY Jets Arizona Free Agent Signing DE PAce is a pass rushing specialist and a former first round pick from Wake Forest.
Damien Woody NY Jets New England Free Agent Signing The Jets made a run on former first round picks by signing Woody and Calvin Pace on the same day.
Ben Roethlisburger Pittsburgh Pittsburgh Resigning Big Ben got a big ass payday. 100 mil and counting.
Mewelde Moore Pittsburgh Minnesota Free Agent Signing Moore is a solid special teams player and a proven 3rd down back. He played well in a reserve role and I always thought his shiftiness would allow him to someday play a bigger role.
Javon Walker Oakland Denver Free Agent Signing Walker is an exciting starting WR - when healthy. He has missed big stretches of time over the last few seasons with knee issues.
Nick Sorenson Cleveland Cleveland Resigning The LB/S Sorenson excels at special teams and is a former Hokie.
TJ Duckett Seattle Detroit Free Agent Signing Duckett is a sometimes good running back who works primarily between the tackles. Duckett has had past success as a short yardage back or backup.
Jason Webster New England Buffalo Free Agent Signing Experienced corner signed to try and win a starting job. Defensive backs Randal Gay and Asante Samuel left vie free agency; I would expect more movement in signing secondary players.
Marty Booker Chicago Miami Free Agent Signing Booker is a vet who is mainly a posession receiver. Booker somehow managed to get some quality catches for the sad, sad Dolphins last year. With the recent departures from Chicago of Mushin Muhammed and Bertrand Berrian, Booker is the #1 receiver for the Bears right now.
Jevon Kearse Tennessee Philadephia Free Agent Signing The freak has a past of being a fierce pash rusher but has struggled in recent years.
Boss Bailey Denver Detroit Free Agent Signing Boss gets to play with his brother Champ in Denver.
Trent Green St Louis Miami Free Agent Signing QB Green reunites with both the Rams and former coordinator Al Saunders. Green will back up Marc Bulger.
Tatum Bell Detroit Detroit Resigning Bell seemed unhappy and unproductve in Detroit but re-signed there anyway. Bell will working with a new offensive coordinator in a new offense.
Warrick Dunn Tampa Bay Atlanta Free Agent Signing RB Dunn is one of the great guys in the NFL. His role will likely be that of a backup for the Buccs.
Julius Jones Seattle Dallas Free Agent Signing The Seahawks are paying RB Jones like a starter. Alexander's days in Seattle numbered?
Larry Fitzgerald Arizona Arizona Resigning The Cards sign Fitty to help their cap situation and quell the mounting trade rumors.
Joey Harrington Atlanta Atlanta Resigning Atlanta resigned Harrington at a discount. He is probably slated to be a backup but who knows with the Falcons.
David Carr NY Giants Carolina Free Agent Signing After failing to win playing time vs rookie Matt Moore and old man Testeverde, Carr will now compete with Anthony Wright and Jared Lorenzen to back up Eli Manning..
Justin McCareins Tennessee NY Jets Free Agent Signing This seems like the second or third guy I have heard of this year going back to the Titans after an extended stay elsewhere. Either the Titans are going back to the good ol days or it is a good place to play and their players want to go back. Maybe a little of both.
Drew Carter Oakland Carolina Free Agent Signing Oakland has signed a lot of free agents this year. Also, when are the Bears going to sign a receiver? With WR Carter off the market, the pickings are getting slimmer and slimmer.
Chris Brown Houston Tennessee Free Agent Signing Brown has a past of injuries but has also shown speed and explosiveness at times. He was losing more and more playing time to Cheeseburger (re: LenDale White) as last season progressed.
*Some of the details of this have not been confirmed.
